Why doesn’t the library buy every best selling title in eBook format?

Not all publishers will sell ebooks to libraries and library consortia. Publishers license copies of eBooks to public libraries. Various publishers have different restrictions, such as the inability to purchase new releases, and audiobook titles published by Audible or Brilliance audio.

Why do I have to wait for an eBook? Aren’t these virtual?

Different publishers or platforms have different restrictions, most are limited to one copy one user at a time, just like physical materials. When an eBook copy is returned to the collection, another patron can borrow the copy.

Hoopla provides instant access — no wait times or hold lists — to a growing collection of ebooks and digital audiobooks. Check out all the offerings at hoopladigital.com or through the hoopla mobile app.

Is there a way to save my card digitally?

Yes, you can save your library card digitally in 2 ways through our consortium’s library app, GMILCS, or through the cloudLibrary app.

  • Download the consortium’s library app, GMILCS, on your iOS or Android mobile device. Once it is installed and you have logged in you can find your digital library card by selecting Card from the menu.
